Here is the heartbreaking reason why people are sharing dog selfies on Twitter

It’s all in aid of the Manchester Dogs’ Home, where 53 dogs were killed in a suspected arson attack.

WHILE SCANNING THROUGH your Twitter timeline this morning, you may have noticed people posting ‘dog selfies’.

What’s it all about, you ask?

Last night, a fire at Manchester Dogs’ Home killed an estimated 53 dogs. The fire is suspected to have been the result of an arson attack and a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with it.

Shortly after the fire, The Manchester Evening News established a donation page.

Then, a Twitter user named Joe Farrar decided to take it one step further and shared this on Twitter.

It didn’t take long for the craze to catch on with countless Twitter users now sharing selfies with their dogs and donating to the Manchester Dogs’ Home with the hashtag #dogselfie.

Among the celebrities to have supported the campaign are Ricky Gervais and Piers Morgan, who both tweeted links to the donation page.

As of this morning, the campaign has raised £519,000 with the cumulative total going up by the minute.
